Mountain Tree

Found the tree standing beside the road north of Terrace, BC.

Work affords me opportunities to travel. In the fall of 2024 I had the opportunity to work with an organization based out of Terrace, BC. After I had completed my full day session with the management of the organization I was working with, I pointed my rented Toyota Rav4 north on a winding mountain road out of Terrace, BC. The fall colours were alive in the trees carpeting the mountains. I stopped in several places just to explore the beauty of the area.

I saw this tree as I was pulled over exploring another odd tree on the side of the road. The original tree that had attracted my attention was notable for the water spigot emerging out of the trunk. While fascinating, it was this tall majestic Tamarack that caught my attention. Now I think it is a Tamarack, but I’m not the tree expert. What I know is that it was a beautiful with its orange foliage set against the mountain and the grey overcast sky.

My regret with this photo is that the road exits the photo midway up the photo drawing your eye out of the image, yet the tree is so dominant that it demands your attention. I spent quite a bit of time trying to compose this image to lessen the impact of the road, but just couldn’t change much and still capture the setting sun on the tree. Ultimately, the tree just grabbed my attention and wouldn’t let me go without a photo.

There are somethings that aren’t ideal in our life but ultimately they capture our attention and make things beautiful. Spend time with them and seek the aspects that make it beautiful.
